sci-fi made in germany

whilst this is fairly famous in germany it is hardly known outside. so you, international audience, please have a look.

RAUMPATROUILLE ORION (spacepatrol orion) was the first german science fiction tv series.

its first episode aired only two weeks later than the first ever episode of STARTREK (17.09.1966 vs. 08.09.1966) but other than startrek raumpatrouille orion unfortunatly only lasted for seven episodes - and was filmed in black and white.

for some the show might be lacking in terms of action but it features some quite fancy designs and a very funky soundtrack - as well as an original flat iron incorporated in the stage set of the commanders bridge.

well, and to stick to the main topic of this blog it has some kind of "robots", too, though "silver-painted-flying-garbage-bins-with-tentacles-and-stuff" would be a more appropriate naming.

take a look at it when you can, highly recommended.

see the official german site of the orion movie (which is a movie re-edited from the episodes)

see a fanpage with information in english here.

btw.: you can buy the re-recorded peter thomas soundorchester soundtrack and a remixes album via the popshop of our darling label bungalow.
